OEM Wiegand Converters and Splitters

Most building access system use readers that output data in a Wiegand protocol.  In order to use the cards/keys associated with these Wiegand output readers in other applications (such as a PC, or embedded controller), you may need a Wiegand data converter. RF IDeas offers a full line of Wiegand data converters and splitters.

The RF IDeas converters are capable of translating all major Wiegand-based reader technologies including proximity to RS-232, RS-485, TTL, or USB. As an example, a Wiegand reader can be attached through our converter to a  serial or USB port on a PC.  For the serial model, the PC program will see the card reads as a formatted ASCII string. Either converter can present the card data directly to the respective port (USB sends keystrokes, RS-232c sends as ASCII characters), or through a callable DLL
(see software developer’s kit). These solutions are 100% compatible with the configuration application associated with pcProx-USB and pcProx-RS232c.

Splitters allow the Wiegand data to go to multiple panels and other devices. Custom converters and other technologies and formats are available. Consult the factory at 847-870-1723 for latest list. In general, converters can be quickly developed for your special needs.

RS-232 -> PC

Hooking to a PC, Here’s how.

TTL, RS-232, RS-485, to WIEGAND (non-configurable)

For those who need to take a non-Wiegand device to the Wiegand world we have the xx to Wiegand Converters. This can be a little trickier since Wiegand data is numeric, and generally is 24-84 bits in length.

Data to  Wiegand

Wiegand/F2F Adapter allows you to connect Wiegand output proximity readers to CASI® Reader Processor boards.

Any source of RS-232/485/ABA, ASCII digits can be converted to a Wiegand format or ABA. Embedded control and nonnumeric data is ignored by the OEM converters except for CR. Numeric characters are accumulated until the CR character is received. The captured numeric data is then converted and output in a Wiegand format. In addition, the LED signal from the Wiegand Controller activates an auxiliary relay located on the Converter's circuit board. If multiple serial transactions occur faster than one per second, a ten transaction buffer holds them for subsequent output as Wiegand. The Wiegand transactions occur no faster than one per second.
