Q. What is  pcProx?
A.  pcProx is a proximity reader that is compatible with existing building access cards such as those manufactured by HID, Indala, Casi-Rusco, GE Security, Pyramid and more. The pcProx USB reader will work out of the box as a keyboard device. The USB reader in this mode allows the reader to read the ID number from an existing proximity card and place this result into the keyboard buffer as if it were  typed.  It may also be bundled with software to provide a specific functionality.  For example,  software  will allow  this reader to be used as a employee time and ttendance, cafeteria vending lunch card, or even a Windows logon device.   Software developers use the SDK (software developer's kit) to integrate the reader functionality into their application software.

Q. What is the difference between  AIR ID LT  and pcProx?
A. They are both proximity readers.  AIR ID  LT use an active technology and therefore incorporate a small coin cell battery.  Since they are active they have an adjustable reading range of 3-15 ft.  AIR ID LT is an active design that is perfect for a small or large number of users sharing PCs.  pcProx is a passive design and therefore does not use a battery.  Its range is 1-4 inches and it is designed to be compatible with existing building access cards such as those manufactured by HID.

Q. Our company has wireless devices such as, cellular phones, wireless network products and wireless mice. Could there be any  interference using the AIR ID system in close proximity to these other wireless devices?
A: Perhaps, but this is highly unlikely. We use extremely narrow band technology (900 MHz) which prevents nearly all interference.

Q. If someone removes the proximity reader can they gain access?
A: No. The reader simply relays the signal from your badge to the desktop; it does not perform the authentication. The reader alone is of no use to anyone if it is removed from the PC. Removing it forces the user to enter their  passwords manually.

AIR ID LT  FAQs
Q. Do AIR ID badges need to be replaced when the badge wears out?
A: The badge won't wear out. The badge consists of a coin cell lithium battery (CR2025) that can be purchased from any RF IDEAS Solution Provider or from your local computer and electronics store.

 Q. What is the battery life for the active solutions?
A: The battery life will depend on many factors which influence how often the badge is accessed. For example, how often you are at your desk will influence the battery  life. Typically, the battery will last 9 months to 1 year.

contact us if you  would like more information about compatibility with other operating systems.

Q. How does AIR ID operate with Computer Associates Unicenter Single Sign-On Software?
A: The award winning AIR ID badge integrated with  Computer Associates Unicenter Single Sign-On, will automatically enter the single password which then opens multiple platforms with CA Unicenter's Single Sign-On software. The importance AIR ID plays with a single sign-on  application is that once all application platforms are open by the user, and the user walks away from his/her PC throughout the day, the applications are automatically protected when the user steps away from the PC/terminal.. The  entire access and security process is totally transparent therefore increasing compliance, reducing costs, and providing privacy.
