RF IDeas Statement on RFID Interference
The article "Electromagnetic Interference From Radio Frequency Identification Inducing Potentially Hazardous Incidents in Critical Care Medical Equipment." was recently published in The Journal of the American Medical Association causing some concern about radio frequency interference of our proximity and contactless smartcard devices in hospitals. http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/short/299/24/2884
To our knowledge, our devices were not part of this research study and would not be cause for concern.
The devices under EMI tests for induced RFID were passive 868MHz RFID and active 125kHz RFID.
RF IDeas does not design, develop, sell or manufacture RFID active 125khz or passive 868Mhz products mentioned in this article. Our pcProx readers are passive 125kHz and our AIR ID Enroll and Playback devices are passive 13.56MHz.
There are RFID emittance standards in place. RF IDeas tests all of our RFID proximity and contactless smart card readers for radiation and conductive emissions as required by the FCC, CE, c-Tic, other agency’s standards. These agencies and their requirements are in place to guarantee 2 items: that there are no adverse effects on other products and that there is no affect on our products
This is also demonstrated by the following required statement.
FCC Statement
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interface, and (2) This device must accept any interference that
may cause undesired operation.
CE Mark for European operation; c-tic for Australia and New Zealand
