The rf IDEAS® Configuration Software utility provides the ability to configure your WAVE ID® Mobile readers to meet your needs, specifying the desired credential data output and access privileges for cardholders who will use the reader.
When the WAVE ID Mobile is connected to a computer and the configuration utility is accessed, the Bluetooth configuration tab becomes active. Here, you can manage the ability to enable or disable the Bluetooth RF radio and/or RFID RF circuitry. The reader powers up with the Bluetooth low energy module off.
The utility also allows the WAVE ID Plus configuration process to create up to four separate configurations for users.
The WAVE ID Mobile with Bluetooth low energy technology incorporates Bluegiga BLE113, a certified Bluetooth Smart module provided by Silicon Labs. It is suited for short-range wireless applications and meets industry standards for wireless protocol. A separate SDK from Silicon Labs is required and can be downloaded at no charge directly from their site: www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/bluegiga-bluetooth-smart-software-stack.
The Silicon Labs SDK is developer-friendly, with a flexible development architecture that allows developers to write applications around the use of Bluetooth low energy solutions. Mobile devices equipped with Bluetooth low energy can be used as a secure authentication and identification credential, providing employees the flexibility of using their device or their ID badge.
The WAVE ID Mobile is a key element of an overall indoor mobility, tracking or identification application that may also incorporate the use of inexpensive beacons. Beacons are widely available from numerous companies such as BlueCats, Estimote and Kontakt.IO.
