pcProx® is Now WAVE ID®

We’ve transitioned away from the pcProx name, but not from the capabilities our customers rely on. All of your preferred pcProx readers are now called WAVE ID, and come with all of the same functionality as before. We also added new credential, mobile and biometric support. Explore WAVE ID.

Find the Right Card Readers

As authentication devices evolve, so have our product names. We still carry smart card readers with the same functionalities as pcProx models, but now they’re integrated in our WAVE ID family of products. We’ve also introduced new mobile and biometric readers that fall into the WAVE ID family.

Frequently Asked pcProx Questions

What is the difference between pcProx and WAVE ID?

At rf IDEAS, we pride ourselves on engineering the best products for our customers and for delivering products that last in the critical environments they are needed. The biggest difference you will see is in the branding and design of the reader. At the housing level, we have modernized our reader and have provided additional sizes for our desktop form factor (i.e. WAVE ID Plus Mini) as well as addressing authentication for smaller endpoints (i.e. WAVE ID Nano USB-C). The technology between pcProx and WAVE ID products are largely the same, updating in a regular EOL (End of Life) cadence as you have seen from rf IDEAS over time. Our WAVE ID portfolio also benefits from software such as our rf IDEAS Configuration Utility and RRM (Remote Reader Management) tools that enable remote configuration and firmware updates. Explore all the WAVE ID readers here.

Does rf IDEAS still sell pcProx readers?

Yes; however, the pcProx product line is now called WAVE ID. A handful of our legacy pcProx readers can be found within the WAVE ID product line — in addition to new readers that work with secure, mobile (BLE, NFC) and biometric credentials. While the product may look different, such as our new Next Gen housing, our WAVE ID platform is built on the pcProx foundation. You can learn more about our Next Gen readers here.

Will the WAVE ID reader work the same way my pcProx reader did?

Yes. WAVE ID readers have incorporated more technical and security features, but should function just the same, if not better, than the pcProx reader. If you need assistance with setting up your new WAVE ID reader to function like your old pcProx reader, please reach out to our technical support team at techsupport@rfideas.com.

Do you still support pcProx readers if I have your legacy product deployed in the field?

At rf IDEAS we are proud to engineer a product that stands up to the demanding and critical environments that authentication is required. Our Technical Support team is available to help answer questions about legacy pcProx readers up to 3+ years old at techsupport@rfideas.com.

Can the rf IDEAS pcProx be configured to read mobile credentials (BLE or NFC)?

rf IDEAS is committed to bringing our customers authentication solutions that address evolving credential needs and trends. To take full advantage of the current mobile credentials available, we encourage our customers to explore a migration to the latest Next Generation of readers that have the ability to read both Bluetooth® or NFC (wallet) credentials.

Learn more about how your organization can migrate to mobile here. We are constantly adding more to our mobile access portfolio, to stay up to date on the latest product releases and updates we invite you to subscribe to our mailing list.

I am looking to find a replacement for my pcProx reader, what is the equivalent for WAVE ID?

You can find the product family equivalent here. To ensure that the WAVE ID part number is a direct replacement of the pcProx part number, please submit your information here and our team will be in touch with you in 48-hours.

Do I need to replace my pcProx reader with a WAVE ID reader?

Our readers are known for their durability – whether you have a legacy pcProx reader or have upgraded to the new WAVE ID reader. That being said, we do recommend you update your reader at least every 3 years. Check out our top 6 reasons why we recommend you upgrade to our latest platform. Additionally, if you are using proximity credentials, we highly recommend you upgrade to secure or mobile credentials to minimize the chances of a cyberattack.

Does the rf IDEAS Configuration Utility work on my current pcProx reader?

Legacy pcProx manuals and software remain on the Software Downloads page; however, for new features and functionality we recommend you upgrade your reader to WAVE ID when working with the rf IDEAS Configuration Utility.
